Usenet is a worldwide distributed Internet discussion system and it's used by more and more people for sharing ideas and also for downloading various content, like ebooks, music or videos. Compared to the email service, Usenet is public. But to take advantage of this network you need a software that can connect to it. One of them is GrabIt. The main thing you are going to like about GrabIt is the functionality it has to offer to Windows users. What is GrabIt and what can it do, you ask? Trying to keep things short, I have to say that GrabIt is a freeware newsreader that allows you to read and download binaries from usenet newsgroups. You can browse and search newsgroups without downloading headers. Furthermore, GrabIt automatically checks, repairs and extracts your downloads so you don’t have to do it by hand.

The GrabIt download weighs in at 2.1MB, which is quite lightweight. At such a lightweight download size, it will only take a moment to get GrabIt off the web and onto your computer. Installing the application on a Windows-powered computer will take little time as well. I think it is a good idea to mention this because, personally, I don’t like to wait a long time for a software application to download or install. And speaking of which, you will not spend a lot of time getting started with GrabIt and that’s because it comes with a fairly simple to use interface.

If one of your downloads is interrupted by an unexpected power outage for example, you don’t have to start from scratch again. GrabIt will resume from where it let off. If you let GrabIt do its job and decide to go out or go to sleep, you can set it up so that, when all downloads complete, your PC will be shut down. If GrabIt is interfering with other tasks, slowing down other downloads, you can pause the button, let that other download complete, then resume.

Pros

The interface is really easy to use. You can also browse usenet newsgroups without downloading headers and you can pause and resume interrupted downloads. Besides that, the program can shutdown the computer when downloads complete.

Cons

A beginner could have some trouble using this software at first. Besides that, the software needs a valid Usenet hostname, together with a username and password for it to work. GrabIt is one of the best programs for connecting to the Usenet network.
